Alumnus B.B. Bell made a new friend in South Korea.
The four-star General, US Army (Retired), who was named Distinguished Alumnus in 2003, recently met with government leaders in Seoul, South Korea, and took a side trip to the American Military Headquarters in Seoul. There, he met a current UTC University Honors student, who was working at Yongsan Library, which serves U.S. forces at the American Military Headquarters in Seoul.
“Mrs. Ester Kim introduced me to one of her summer interns, none other than a Ms. Monica Lynn Shubert, a student at UTC and a rising junior,” Bell said. “Amazing, and just goes to show that it is indeed a small world and that UTC’s footprint is touching South Korea.”
Bell reported that Mrs. Kim said Shubert is doing “an incredible job.”
Shubert, a psychology major, is visiting her family for the summer and took the library job, where she works on various projects for senior staff members. She is updating catalog information; creating how-to guides for the staff and customers; manning the reference desk; processing new books, and more.
Although Shubert knew Bell was planning to visit, she had no idea he was a University alumnus.
“He was very friendly, accommodating, and a pleasure to talk with. He also mentioned a variety of ways in which he is still involved with our University and I hope to attend the next event he speaks at. It was wonderful to meet him and exciting to once again discover how very small this world can be,” Shubert said.
