Two UTC College of Business faculty members – Dr. Lisa Burke and Dr. Mark Mendenhall – have been invited to speak at “The 19th Annual 2011 Tennessee SHRM Conference and Exposition” to be held on September 21-23. Hosted by the local SHRM Chattanooga Chapter, an affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the state conference will be held at the Chattanooga Convention Center and hundreds of human resource professionals across the southeast will attend.
Burke is a Professor of Management in the College of Business and holds a Ph.D. in human resources/organizational behavior from Indiana University. She is a UC Foundation Professor and prior recipient of the UTC Professor of the Year award. Burke has published more than 70 academic journal articles, eight book chapters and edited a book on management training.
Burke was awarded the “2005 HR Educator of the Year Award” in the Southwestern United States, is a recipient of the “Professional Trainer of the Year Award” (from North Louisiana ASTD), is a member of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” and serves on multiple editorial boards, earning several outstanding reviewer awards. A former student anonymously created a recurring national scholarship in Burke’s name through the National SHRM Foundation, which is awarded each year to a deserving HR student in the U.S.
Mendenhall holds the J. Burton Frierson Chair of Excellence in Business Leadership in the College of Business. He received his B.S. degree (1980) in psychology and his Ph.D. degree (1983) in social psychology, both from Brigham Young University. In 1998, he held the Ludwig Erhard Stiftungs professur endowed chair at the University of Bayreuth ( Germany), and from 1999-2004 he was a visiting professor at the Europa Institute at the University of Saarland (Germany). Mendenhall is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of global leadership development and international human resource management.
