Homecoming week ended with a bang as the football Mocs beat the Western Carolina Catamounts with a final score of 51-7. The University continued to celebrate its 125th anniversary with week-long Homecoming festivities. Pep rallies and friendly competition at Lip Sync, Field Games, and the Step Down were highlights for students.
During half-time of the Homecoming football game, Charles Putnam won Top Moc and Claire Simpson was crowned Homecoming Queen. Other candidates for Top Moc were Cody Wampler, Bradley Bell, and Josh Hill. Candidates for Homecoming Queen were Abby Satterfield, Victoria King, Rachel Davis, and Sarah Beth Watts. More than 600 votes were cast in this year’s contest.

Homecoming kicked off with a campus-wide pep rally on Monday with performances from the Marching Mocs, the Sugar Mocs, and UTC cheerleaders. Nearly 500 students, alumni, and community members attended the pep rally.

The Lip Sync Competition was held on Tuesday with 14 student groups singing and dancing to today’s most popular music. Around 1,960 people watched the show from McKenzie Arena.

Field games were a hit with students participating in bed races, dizzy bat races, tug-of-wars, and the infamous trout joust. 18 student organizations competed in the games while more than 600 spectators watched.

The UTC Step-Down drew record a record crowd of more than 4,000 spectators to watch the performances of 15 student groups. Sigma Kappa took home the award for best sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha for best fraternity.

The University held a pep rally downtown in Miller Plaza for the community. Performances by the UTC Marching Mocs, Sugar Mocs, and cheerleaders pumped up the crowd for the big game.
Representatives from the University were featured on television this week. Reggie Lomnick from UTC Dining Services and Debbie Parker, Associate Vice Chancellor for Business and Financial Affairs, made a visit to News Channel 3 for the “3 Plus You” show to talk about the newly renovated Crossroads facility and Homecoming tailgating packages from UTC Dining.
