The University Center was filled with students for Career Day, an annual event for all majors sponsored by the Placement and Student Employment Center and the Cooperative Education Office.
Eighty-one prospective area employers turned out to speak, and in some cases, arrange interviews with students.
“Everyone has been so nice and I was very surprised by the number of companies here,” said junior John Rent.
While some students remain undecided about their future career paths, they had an opportunity to speak with a variety of employers who represent the current Chattanooga job market.
Susan Fries, a senior English major, remains optimistic about her future.
“Writing jobs can be hard to come by. It’s nice to know what other options are out there,” she said.
Exhibitors pulled out all the stops this year in terms of trinkets and free giveaways to entice students to stop by their booths. Both Rent and Fries left the event with better insight into the professional field and bags filled with goodies like pens, candy, and soda can koozies.
“I’m just really excited to see all these students turning out,” said Kim Harmon of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
As for her helpful hints on how to snag an interview, “Do you want the low down?” she asked. “I want to hire someone who wants a job! A little initiative goes a long way in the professional world.”
