The Cress Gallery of Art is proud to announce the upcoming UTC Department of Art Senior Bachelor’s in Fine Arts Thesis Exhibitions. A spring tradition in the Cress, this year’s exhibition will feature the culminating visual research of 32 students in their final year of one of the Department’s Bachelor of Fine Art professional degree programs: 3-D Studio, Graphic Design, Painting and Drawing, and Photography/Media Arts.
Show One begins on April 4 – April 13 with the opening reception on Tuesday, April 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Show Two begins on April 18 – April 2 with an opening reception on Tuesday, April 17, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Each show will include a full range of media employing a large variety of materials from the traditional to the experimental: from multi-media installation to work on canvas and paper; from clay and ceramic to photography and video; and from designed objects and furniture to web and digitally based work.
According to UTC Department of Art Head, Matt Greenwell, “These exhibitions express the vitality and range of the department’s programs, and the ambition of its student majors.”
Immediately preceding each opening reception, Seniors in Show One and Show Two respectively will give short presentations related to their work beginning at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of Cadek Hall, 725 Oak Street, on the UTC campus. The focus of each student’s conceptual framework of research will also be summarized in artist’s statements displayed on text panels throughout both exhibitions.
Participating in Show One are Kayla Brown, Lauren Bubulka, Rikki Clifford, Katie Holden, Dustin Hysinger, Michelle Leggett, Summer Leinart, Murphy McCracken, Elena Nikolaeva, Jean Pitts, Dawn Pfeiffer, Jillian Savage, Robin Seaman, Amanda Sprague, Lisa Srok, Taylor Wade, and Ashley Kay Worley.
Participating in Show Two are Larry Buffaloboy, Aaron Cowan, Matt Dutton,Kelsey Emerson, Gracie Harvey, Lindsey Higgins, Hannah Kincannon, Nolan McGuire, Sara Rouse, Kevin Swenson, Monica Taylor, Jacklyn Weathers, Brent Weston, Matthew White, and Laura Helen Winn.
The Cress Gallery of Art is located in the lobby of the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine Street, at the corner of Vine and Palmetto Streets.
