The UTC Construction Management program in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences recently received a donation from GRAPHISOFT—100 licenses of the ArchiCAD Building Information Modeling (BIM) software valued at $425,000.
“BIM is very powerful. Most construction companies began using it in the last five to ten years,” according to Dr. Neslihan Alp, UC Foundation Professor, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and Department Head of Engineering Management and Technology. “It will be crucial for our students to learn how to use it in our curriculum during their studies in the UTC Construction Management program. They will be much more prepared and ready for the workforce when they graduate.”
Construction Management is a concentration in the Engineering Technology Management (ETM) undergraduate program at UTC. This concentration is intended as advanced preparation for the engineering technologist to serve a leadership role in a construction related field.
The Construction Management program at UTC has grown significantly since it was launched in fall 2008 with a gift of $150,000 from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of East Tennessee. More than 100 students currently enrolled in the program seek accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology/Technology Accreditation Commission (ABET-TAC).
Construction Management students receive up to $50,000 annually in scholarships from the AGC of East Tennessee.
