Ira Glass, host and producer of the public radio show This American Life, will deliver the final lecture in the 2012-13 Hunter Lecture Series on Sunday, April 7, at the Tivoli Theatre. This free event will begin at 4 p.m.; doors open at 2:30 p.m. It is open to the public.
For the last 17 years, This American Life has become a public radio institution that is now heard weekly by nearly two million listeners. The show takes a journalistic approach to old fashioned storytelling.
Glass will discuss This American Life, what makes a compelling story, where he and his staff find the amazing stories for their show, and how they try to push broadcast journalism to do things it doesn’t usually do.
Glass is also the producer of Sleepwalk With Me, a film by Mike Birbliglia. The film is the winner of a 2012 Audience Award at Sundance.
Named in honor of the founder of the Benwood Foundation, the George T. Hunter Lecture Series brings speakers that address issues in the foundation’s four focus areas – Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, and Community Building.
The Benwood Foundation partners with The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to produce the lecture series each year.
