UTC’s Olivia Reeves brings home the Olympic gold
On Friday, Aug. 9, Olivia Reeves—a senior sociology student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, became the first U.S. weightlifter to win gold at the Olympics in 24 years. She also set an Olympic record with a snatch of 117 kg (257.9 pounds).
University High welcomes new and returning students for the 2024-25 school year
Class is officially in session for 41 University High juniors. For the second consecutive year, students are working toward their high school diplomas on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus as part of the University High program—a Hamilton County Schools initiative.
UTC rocks: First-year geology class shows Chattanooga’s great outdoors
In Dr. Amy Brock-Hon’s first-year geology classes, the city of Chattanooga will serve as the laboratory. The class, named “MOCS Explore Chattanooga,” combines two geology classes and a lab and is a part of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s “A Moc’s First Year” program—which was designed to help first-year students build community.
Training exercise prepares UTC Police and local emergency response teams
On Wednesday, July 31, emergency responders and volunteers from UTC, the city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County came to campus for an emergency training exercise. Hosted by the UTC Department of Public Safety, the exercise simulated an armed intruder scenario in Lupton Hall, allowing participants to practice their response procedures.
A gripping story: Juan Pena finds calling in mechatronics
With gloves cased in wiring on both hands, Juan Pena made a grasping motion with his right. He demonstrated how the device could make his left hand mimic the movement as it slowly gripped a cup.
A summer of social change: UTC student Erin Yenawine tackles big issues as part of research experience
A UTC rising junior is making beneficial change in Dallas neighborhoods. Erin Yenawine, a double major in political science and economics and Brock Scholar in the UTC Honors College, is participating in an eight-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program called “Data Science for the Social Good” at Southern Methodist University in University Park, Texas.
