In partnership with the Salvation Army of Chattanooga, the UTC Department of Theatre and Speech will assist in a community production of the popular musical, Godspell on July 20th and 21st at 7:30 p.m., July 22nd at 2 p.m., and July 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 800 McCallie Ave.
Racing Mocs place in top 25 in latest competition
The Racing Mocs, UTC’s student-led Baja team, placed in the top 25 of more than 100 teams at the Society of Engineers (SAE) Midwest international competition in Madison, Wisconsin. The competition ends a spectacular run for the team who placed in the top ten in their past two contests this year.
Two new UTC degrees receive UT Board approval
Two degree offerings planned for UTC received approval from the UT Board of Trustees on Thursday, June 21st. Both the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) and the Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) require approval by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, scheduled to meet on July 26.
Institute offers strategies to local teachers
A group of Hamilton County elementary teachers representing 30 different schools learned new strategies to manage their classrooms at the first William Butterfield Classroom Management Institute, held at UTC. A total of 150 people participated, including administrators, pre-service teachers from UTC, and representatives from community organizations.
Governor’s School gives high school students new perspectives
Avery Wyatt’s journey to Tennessee’s Governor’s School for Prospective Teachers at UTC began many years ago when her “students” were really her stuffed animals.
SimCenter part of White House high speed internet initiative
Officials from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s SimCenter: National Center for Computational Engineering, SimCenter Enterprises, Inc., and Chattanooga’s Gig City initiative were on hand in Washington when the White House launched U.S. Ignite, a national innovation initiative for developing and deploying public sector applications and services on ultra-fast networks. With a name like the “Climbing Tower Extravaganza,” it’s a lock the children at Frazier Elementary School in Dayton, Tennessee, will surely enjoy their new activity center built by a group of UTC engineering students.
Students create sensory mural for Blythe Bower Elementary School
For several UTC engineering students, helping others also meant helping themselves. Creating a bridge and colorful mural for pre-kindergarten (pre-k) students at Blythe Bower Elementary School in Cleveland, Tennessee gave the engineering students new skills and a new perspective.
Software donation benefits Construction Management program
The UTC Construction Management program in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences recently received a donation from GRAPHISOFT—100 licenses of the ArchiCAD Building Information Modeling (BIM) software valued at $425,000.
