Mathematics department to host poster contest
The mathematics department has partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee to host its third annual poster contest, open to all area high school, middle school, and home schooled students on Saturday, February 20, 10 a.m.-noon, University Center, Tennessee Room.
Introduction to Asia Conference open to public
A group of faculty experts will present the Second Annual Introduction to Asia Conference on Wednesday, February 17, from 12:15-3:30 p.m. in the UTC University Center, Raccoon Mountain Room. This event is free and open to the public. The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography is sponsoring the conference.
Men’s basketball coach honored
John Shulman, head coach of the men’s basketball program, was honored Tuesday with Distinguished Citizen Awards from the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County Governments. Chattanooga mayor Ron Littlefield and Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey presented Shulman with the awards in a surprise ceremony at the city’s Criminal Justice Building.

Women’s Studies spring 2010 lecture series schedule announced
Professors from the Women’s Studies department will present lectures in their areas of expertise as part of the department’s annual lecture series that runs Monday, February 1 through Wednesday, March 31. Topics include women in correctional facilities, the use of sexual epithets, and women missionaries and social reform in 19th century Southern Africa.
Cress Art Gallery offers photographic exhibition
The Cress Gallery of Art offers the public an unusual exhibition free of charge with the support of The Friends of the Gallery and will bring the artists to Chattanooga as part of the UTC John and Diane Marek Visiting Artist Series.

Dr. June Hanks working with Haiti survivors Following her arrival in Haiti on January 28, Dr. June Hanks, UC Foundation associate professor, is working in a makeshift hospital she describes as “a MASH unit in a building instead of tents.”
Lego League robotics competition draws interest
Members of UTC’s Center for Energy, Transportation and the Environment hosted hundreds of students from several Hamilton County schools for the 2009 First Lego League robotics competition. Students took a tour of the testing facility and learned about the research conducted there.
UTC Bass Anglers Host Spring Tournament
The UTC Bass Anglers Club plans to host its second tournament series in Spring 2010. Club President Alex Craw says the Tennessee Collegiate Bass Fishing Trail is open to any collegiate angler.
