UTC students mentor local girls at CGLA
A group of UTC Sociology students recently began a mentorship program with 9th and 10th grade students at Chattanooga Girl’s Leadership Academy (CGLA). Experiential learning increases student success
Eleven UTC students in the upper level cross-disciplinary course Tropical Island Ecology and Geology conducted research in San Salvador last summer, where they examined coral and algae living on natural reefs and compared them to those living on artificial reefs, such as sunken ships. Dr. Ann Holmes, Assistant Professor of Geology, and Dawn Ford, Adjunct Professor in Biological and Environmental Sciences, added a new layer of learning for these students by earning the designation of the pilot ThinkAchieve Experiential Learning class.
Campus mourns passing of Interim Chancellor Bogue
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga mourn the passing of Dr. Grady Bogue Wednesday morning. Bogue served as interim chancellor of the UTC campus from September 2012 until July 2013.
Student team headed to national chemical car competition
For the second year in a row, the UTC student Chem-E Car team will compete on the national level. The team will travel to San Francisco, California for the competition sponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Bonfire 2013 planned for November 6
As the temperature begins to drop, plan to warm up at the 5th Annual UTC Bonfire on Wednesday, November 6 at the former Chamberlain Field. This year’s event will be sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA). Students with a valid Mocs card can come at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy free refreshments and giveaways. The bonfire and pep rally will begin shortly after 7 p.m.
Disability Resource Center uses sitcom to raise disability awareness
Challenges faced by a person who uses a wheelchair are easy to recognize, but there are many disabilities that are less visible. The UTC Disability Resource Center raises awareness and educates the campus community to interact with people who may be facing disabilities, invisible or otherwise.
SouthEast Bank awards scholarships to UTC students
SouthEast Bank and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announce that five students have been selected to receive the SouthEast Bank Scholar award for the 2013-2014 academic year. This scholarship will provide Olivia Simmons, Jennifer Lopez, Kelsey Stansell, Danielle Ducheny, and Joshua Seaton with $5,000 annually to offset the cost of tuition and assist in accomplishing academic and personal goals.

A new collaboration between The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and IBM will give students an array of marketable skills in data analytics, one of the fastest growing sectors in the national and regional economy.
