Alumnus takes Command of Army ROTC
Major General James M. “Mark” McDonald (’80) has taken command of Army ROTC, responsible for producing 60 percent of the Army’s new officers annually. McDonald (’80) will oversee Cadet Command. His last assignment was in Iraq, where he had been the director, J-3 (Operations) for U.S. Forces Iraq.
UTC student crowned Miss Chattanooga
UTC junior Chandler Lawson was recently selected Miss Chattanooga 2011. Lawson, a political science major who works at law firm Chambliss, Bahner and Stophel, won the interview award. The Tullahoma native, who was Tennessee’s Junior Miss 2008, will make her second trip to the Miss Tennessee Pageant in June 2011. The pageant will be held…

Nobel Laureate explores self-governance
Nobel Laureate Elinor (Lin) Ostrom told a UTC audience in the challenge of self- governance in complex contemporary environments, one of the broad lessons is that the complexity of markets is not automatically a sign of inefficiency.
Chinese Embassy representative visits campus
With a backdrop of Chinese artists’ work at the Cress Gallery, University and Chattanooga leaders met Duan Jun, first secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC, at a reception. It was a special event in UTC’s month long “Focus on China.” Duan is responsible for coordinating local relations between Chinese and American cities.
