Hamilton County commissioners and the city of Chattanooga have given approval for the University to officially acquire the Engel Stadium property on East Third Street.
Tennessee Temple will sub-lease the stadium to support its baseball program, according to Dr. Richard Brown, Vice Chancellor of Finance and Operations. Tennessee Temple will be responsible for the control and maintenance of the stadium with a multi-year lease.
UTC currently uses the property for parking and intramurals. Long-term plans for Engel include an NCAA track and field facility, which would be donor supported.
“Acquisition of the Engel Stadium property is critical for the growth of the University’s urban campus,” Brown said. “We appreciate the actions of the city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County for allowing the University to acquire these 28 acres of land.”
