Chen Zimbalista, Israeli percussionist, will perform Friday, September 26, noon-1 p.m. in the UTC Roland Hayes Concert Hall. Zimbalista is a one-man band using hands, feet and voice to work the marimba, drums, cymbals and numerous percussion instruments. Zimbalista will be the headline act for Culture Fest and will perform again at 6 p.m. at Coolidge Park on Saturday, September 27. Both his performance at UTC and at Culture Fest will be free and open to the public.
Zimbalista’s music is a euphonious blend of pulses and beats which defies classification. A true feast for the senses, his programs are taken from classical, blues, jazz and occasionally from the rock repertoire.
A winner of international competitions, Zimbalista has appeared throughout the United States and around the world. He has performed as soloist with orchestras in Israel, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, and with the Detroit Symphony. His appearances have earned reviews such as, “a brilliant performance by a towering virtuoso” (Frankfurter Allgemeine).
Zimbalista’s performance is presented by : UTC, Arts & Education Council of Chattanooga, and the Chattanooga Jewish Community Federation.
