Art professor David Young’s solo exhibition, “Pompeii,” will run Thursday, November 13-Friday, December 19 at the Association for Visual Arts (AVA) gallery located at 30 Frazier Avenue. An opening reception will be held Friday, November 7, 5:30-8 p.m. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday.
Young’s interest in the story of Pompeii and its destruction was piqued by a visit to Italy 12 years ago. He told the Chattanooga Times Free Press: “most of my paintings are about people experiencing a pivotal moment — a tipping point on a fulcrum when someone realizes that everything in life that follows will be different.” Look for abstract red brushstrokes in these paintings that resemble flowing lava, Young said.
Eleven oil paintings are included in the show.
