With the Chattanooga City Council elections coming on March 3, the president of the UTC Political Science Club is encouraging the 1,200 UTC students registered to vote to get to know the candidates.
The UTC Political Science Club will sponsor two forums for Chattanooga City Council candidates on January 27 at 12:15 p.m. in Fletcher 113 and January 29 at 3:30 p.m. in the Signal Mountain Room, according to Allyson Smith, president of the UTC Political Science Club.
“Local elections are just as important as our national elections because local politics determine where students can live, property taxes, and maintaining parks and green spaces-to name a few responsibilities of the City Council,” Smith said. “Students are consistently overlooked in local politics because they do not turn up in local elections. To be heard, we must make our presence in the community known and we can start by voting on March 3.
