As Late Night with Jimmy Fallon spreads Mocs fever across the country, Chattanooga has definitely caught Fallon fever. See the clips from “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” below.
When the NBC host adopted the UTC Mocs as his dark horse team in the NCAA Basketball tournament, he focused a national spotlight on the campus, Head Coach John Shulman, and the Chattanooga community. The Late Night segments have become all the buzz around campus and town, and students, alumni, fans, and faculty and staff members are posting links to the videos on Facebook, MySpace, and other networking pages.
“The Jimmy Fallon phenomenon has taken our campus by storm. It’s gone viral. We could not be more appreciative or thrilled about the wonderful segments on his show. We recognize that there’s a punch line there, but that’s okay. We’re in on the fun,” said Chuck Cantrell, assistant vice chancellor for university relations.
Late Night featured segments throughout the week leading up to the NCAA tournament first-round game between the UTC Basketball Mocs—ranked 16—and the University of Connecticut Huskies—ranked 1. Fallon has said that he’s rooting for the Mocs because they are the underdogs in what has been classified as a “David and Goliath” matchup.
“This has gone far beyond just the basketball tournament for Chattanooga. We’ve had students say they want to invite Jimmy Fallon to campus, to be our commencement speaker, to put on a show…it’s just amazing how this has captured their attention. We are definitely going to try to get him to visit Chattanooga so we can show him some real Southern hospitality,” said Cantrell.
