The UTC Master Chorale is seeking singers for its summer 2009 season which begins with six weeks of rehearsals beginning May 12 and culminates with a June 19th performance at the newly restored 2nd Presbyterian Church in downtown Chattanooga. Rehearsals are held on the UTC Campus in Cadek Hall room 310. Persons interested in joining the group are asked to schedule a minimal audition which includes singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” and range check.
The Master Chorale is a mixed chorus that performs an advanced level of choral music as part of the Masters of Music program. Community members are encouraged to join with no charge. Members of the Master Chorale are UTC graduate students and also members of area church choirs, the Chattanooga Bach Choir, Choral Arts, The Chattanooga Symphony Chorus and other area choral organizations.
Literature for this season is focused on recent Northern European compositions and folk songs. Composers represented are Arvo Pärt, Vytautas Miškinis, Egil Hovland, Henryk Górecki, Zdeněk Lukáš, László Halmos, and featuring Joseph Rheinberger’s wonderful setting of the Stabat Mater. Folk song settings of James Erb, Steven Paulus, Katherine Davis and Philip Wilby will close the concert. For a full concert and literature listing, visit the chorus webpage.
