Fifty rising 10th through 12th grade students in the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee enjoyed a summertime visit to campus, part of a tour also including Maryville College, UT Knoxville, and Chattanooga State.
For the second year, the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee Campus Tour program was created to give girls the opportunity to discover the significance of the HOPE Scholarship and all that Tennessee colleges and universities have to offer. This fun and creative format ends in a culminating event called Girl University.
The students enjoyed their UTC visit according to Sharica M. Smallwood, Programs Manager, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee.
“Thank you for your hospitality! I can say without a doubt the UT-Chattanooga and Chattanooga State extended the warmest welcome. I do believe after our visit, you may have some future Mocs,” said Smallwood.
After eating dinner at the University Center, the Admissions staff took the girls for a tour of campus. Student Development offered an organizational fair and an outdoor movie at the UTC Student Park. There were more activities scheduled by Campus Housing at UTC Place, where the girls spent the night. The following morning they ate breakfast and moved on to Chattanooga State.
“Girl University is designed to provide encouragement and education to help these students make good decisions so that as women, they will have a better quality of life and more career choices,” Smallwood said.
