Students enjoyed a slice of birthday cake and looked at old University yearbooks when Founders Day was observed on campus, marking the 123rd anniversary of the institution’s beginning. The UTC Student Alumni Council sponsored the event. The Chancellor’s Office also provided pizza.
Chancellor Roger Brown’s Convocation featured Dr. Rita Geier, who presented “No Minds to Waste: Meeting the Challenge of Access to Higher Education.” Geier is Associate to the Chancellor and Senior Fellow at the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She leads efforts to achieve the university’s intercultural and diversity goals and examines and promotes solutions to critical public policy issues.
During convocation, Chancellor Brown and Student Government Association President Tyler Forrest challenged UTC students with 10,000 Opportunities to Serve. While the 10,526 students on this campus benefit from the support of the community, they have an opportunity to share that generosity. In the near future, the UTC administration will establish a web site where students can log in and document their community service. This will allow UTC to inventory student impact on the life of Chattanooga and the surrounding area.
