Dozens of incoming freshman received a MOCS welcome to UTC and Chattanooga through MOCS Camp, a three-day retreat created to introduce new students to the University and the city.
Bill Staley, market development manager at Sunshine Media Group, former UTC SGA President and young alumnus spoke to Mocs Camp participants about Mocs spirit.
“I explained that an alma mater is Latin for nurturing mother, so I encouraged the students to make their mamma proud! They have a blank journal for the next four years, and they must work to write their own story,” said Staley.
MOCS Camp students took part in several activities including a campus tour, a visit to Maclellan Island, Lake Winnie, and whitewater rafting.
“As freshmen, they don’t really understand what they are getting themselves into, and I explained they are not at UTC solely for earning a degree. I know I learned just as much outside the classroom as I did inside the classroom by getting involved in a variety of campus groups,” said Staley.
