The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga begins a new tradition with the Blue and Gold Memorial ceremony, to remember students, faculty, staff, retirees, and alumni who have died during the last year. We invite everyone to join the UTC campus community at this ceremony on Monday, April 16 at 6 p.m. in the Quadrangle, outside Patten Chapel.
UTC’s Quadrangle is the sight of the former Old Main, the first home of Chattanooga University.
During the University’s 2011-12 celebration of its founding year, one story has been repeated at many events: a reporter described Old Main in its inaugural year by writing, “This institution is a light set upon a hill, in a literal as well as a figurative sense. It is lighted throughout with gas, and when it is illuminated in the evening, it is truly a light upon a hill, a thing of real beauty.” When he wrote the words, he created an enduring legacy of the Chattanooga campus as a beacon of opportunity for the region.
The first Blue and Gold Memorial was purposefully planned for the space where Old Main once stood. At this beautiful spot on campus, those who have passed on will be remembered as part of the University’s history.
