The journey into space is as much psychological as it is physical. Astronauts’ environment is a small spaceship where they work, sleep, and eat with the same coworkers every day in a dangerous, high-stress space for long periods of time. As an I-O psychologist for NASA, it’s Dr. Kelley Slack’s job to prepare the newest class of astronauts for space travel.
UTC launches cable network and increases Internet coverage
Students and faculty across campus are enjoying improved Internet speeds and a host of other improvements this year. With the help of the Tennessee Air National Guard’s 241st Engineering Installation Squadron, the UTC Single Mode Fiber Optics Network was expanded and recently installed.
UTC students investigate paranormal activity
While the topic of ghosts may bring up images of Ghostbusters and a slew of horror movies to most, a group of students is focusing on the scientific and historical aspects of the subject. Students in the UTC Parapsychology and Paranormal Scientific Investigators discuss and pursue advancements in the field of paranormal research with adherence to the scientific method.

The course schedules for spring and summer semesters of 2014 are online. Open registration for spring 2014 begins November 22 while open registration for summer semester 2014 begins March 10.
Alumna chosen for graduate fellowship
UTC Alumna Jillian Pennyman ’13 has been chosen for the Betty Jane Narver Policy Fellowship for 2013 – 2014. Pennyman received both a B.S. and M.Ed. in Secondary Education from UTC. She is pursuing the Master’s in Education Policy.

The Mocs are back in action at McKenzie Arena for the beginning of basketball season! Both the Mocs and Lady Mocs will open their seasons on Friday, November 8. The men tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the women at 7 p.m.
Ted Alling inspires College of Business students
Ted Alling admitted that he and the co-founders of Access America Transport never created a business plan and “none of us are smart people.” What he and his two best friends from college did have were complementary skills and two goals: to create the best place in America to work, and to form a company that would make $100 million dollars.
Exhibit featuring Holocaust heroes comes to UTC
UTC is hosting a unique exhibit featuring largely unrecognized heroes of the Holocaust on Monday and Tuesday, November 12 – 13, 8 – 5 p.m. in the Chattanooga Rooms of the UTC University Center. “Visas for Life” tells the stories of diplomats from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds who issued visas that allowed Jews to escape Nazi persecution. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
