Capt. Kevin Beavers, head of UTC’s Department of Military Science, has been chosen as one of Chatter magazine’s 20 Under 40 in Chattanooga.
Still an active-duty Army officer, he began teaching at UTC in fall semester 2017 and recently was selected for promotion to the rank of major.
Beavers grew up in Soddy-Daisy and was a standout in high school, selected as Mr. Soddy-Daisy High in 2003 and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Class 5-A Linebacker of the Year in 2002. Later, he was a four-year linebacker for the Army Black Knights football team.
In 2003, he was named the JROTC Cadet of the Year for the state of Tennessee 2002 and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point graduate in 2008.
Among his other distinguished accomplishments, he was a platoon leader in Basra, Iraq, for 12 months beginning in January 2010. He spent more than two years as battery commander in different capacities for Air Defense Artillery where he deployed to Jordan and the United Arab Emirates as part of the Global War on Terrorism. As a commander, he was responsible for more than 200 soldiers and their families as well as $350 million in equipment.
In 2015, he married his high school sweetheart, Stefanie Wittler, who was Miss Tennessee 2009.
