Mina Sartipi, director of the Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is one of the guest speakers at a TEDx talk coming in November.
The virtual event’s theme is “Scenic City Stories,” and includes presentations by 12 local people.
“Well, anytime you’re sharing the floor with great people at an event like TEDx, it’s hard not to be nervous,” Sartipi said with a smile.
Among the other speakers at the event are photographer Melissa Gallagher (“Emotion Monsters and the Way We Treat Them”), Tim Dooner (“Use Your Voice: The Power of Podcasting”), April Corbett (“Directed My Anger to Build My Advantage”), Rob Hatchett (“The Chess Revolution”) and Ashley Jones (“How we Heal in Grief”).
Sartipi’s presentation is “Leveraging Big Data for a Better Tomorrow,” which will take a close look at the history of Chattanooga up to the current Smart City project, which examines and tests everything from traffic flow, electricity delivery, air quality and safety issues. She will detail CUIP’s involvement in the project.
Sartipi has traveled internationally, giving presentations on CUIP, its projects and Smart City technology, a background that will ratchet down the nerves, she said.
“Hopefully, past experience will make for an easy, comfortable talk. I’m looking forward to hearing the ideas and perspectives shared.
“This town has a rich and diverse set of voices, and we’re excited to be among them.”
