The Honors College at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been selected as one of the Top 40 in the country.
The college’s ranking is in the latest edition of Inside Honors: Ratings and Reviews of 40 Public University Honors Programs. The book is edited by John Willingham at Public University Press.
“Our excellent ranking is a testament to the truly astounding opportunities we offer UTC students and the campus at large through the Honors College,” said Dean Linda Frost. “UTC can be very proud of its Honors College and this ranking provides the evidence to back that pride up.”
For the rankings, Editor John Willingham studied spreadsheets listing course sections by academic subject, honors enrollment in each section and data about the types of honors classes.
Inside Honors made its rankings based on, among other criteria:
- The number of honors credits required for graduation
- The number and type of honors classes
- The extent of student participation in junior and senior years
- The size of honors classes
- Honors graduation rates compared to test scores and university freshman retention rates
- Staff-to-students ratio
- Record of prestigious awards
Along with UTC, the honors colleges ranked in the book include Penn State University, Arizona State University, Clemson University, University of Georgia, Appalachian State University and University of Mississippi.
The new book is the fifth in a series that began with the 2012 release of A Review of Fifty Public University Honors Programs.
