Preliminary estimates for Mocs Give Day 2 show more than $235,000 raised thanks to 750-plus donations, a UTC record-setting day for gift giving.
Marty Smith couldn’t be happier.
“You work really hard for six months to prepare for a day like Mocs Give Day and hope that it goes well, and it did,” said Smith, senior associate vice chancellor for development and alumni affairs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. “We were certainly thrilled with the results.
“A lot of that has to do with our people, and you don’t have a successful day like we did without everybody pulling together as a team—from the Directors of Development to the staff here to the work of the athletic department to get their donors and alumni rallying.”
Mocs Give Day, a 24-hour digital fundraising initiative held Oct. 5, included 308 gifts to the athletics departments’ Mocs Club 1500 campaign, raising nearly $118,000. Individual scholarship fund giving was highlighted by 62 donors contributing $11,225 to the Dr. Littleton H. Mason Scholarship Fund for minority students attending UTC.
Smith credited the UC Foundation Board for putting together more than $20,000 in challenge gifts, “and the UTC Alumni Board was involved with that as well,” he said.
“Those two boards were highly instrumental in the success of the day.”
