The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been designated a 2022-2023 Military Friendly school by a national veterans organization.
Sylvana Matthews, director of the UTC Office of Veteran Student Services, said the recognition is “the start of the many great things to come.”
“The Military Friendly designation confirms that we are going the right direction to making better outcomes and investments for our veteran and military-connected students,” she said.
According to the Military Friendly website, schools with the designation “strive toward and succeed in the areas that matter most in helping veterans make the transition from the military to school and, ultimately, satisfying careers in the civilian world.”
Based in part on information supplied by UTC, the group’s calculations show that the University exceeded standards in six categories: Academic Policies and Compliance, Admissions and Orientation, Culture and Commitment, Financial Aid and Assistance, Graduation and Career and Military Student Support and Retention.
On its website, Military Friendly says its recognition is based on the “standard that measures an organization’s commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefit for the military community.
“By setting a standard, promoting it and raising the bar over time, it provides long-term, positive reinforcement for American organizations to invest in programs that improve the lives of veterans.”
