The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Construction Competition Team placed in the Top Five in both the Commercial Building and the Shadow Team categories in this year’s Associated Schools of Construction Region 2 competition, which covers the Southeast.
In the Commercial Building category, the six-member team placed ahead of such schools as Georgia Institute of Technology, Clemson University, Mississippi State University and Appalachian State University. The task was to design a method to protect a large metal building from hurricane-level winds and rain.
The Commercial Building team members were Grant Watson, Paris Cornelison, Madison Williams, Wesley Boyle, Elijah Kerr and Zion Laoo.
In the Shadow Team competition, UTC students Jace Holt, Joshua Wilson and Levi Thornton teamed with students from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and had seven hours to design a rocket manufacturing facility.
The team’s advisor is Paul Baggett, an associate lecturer of construction management in Engineering Management and Technology.
