The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been designated a military-friendly and military spouse-friendly school by Military Friendly®, a national veterans organization.
UTC received gold-level 2024-2025 Military Friendly designation for the University’s efforts in creating sustainable and meaningful education paths for the military community.
“Thank you for all that you do for veterans and the service member community,” Military Friendly wrote in its designation announcement. “Your efforts are truly commendable and are to be admired by all.”
According to the Military Friendly website, schools with the designation “strive toward and succeed in the areas that matter most in helping veterans make the transition from the military to school and, ultimately, satisfying careers in the civilian world.”
At the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year, approximately 600 veterans, military-affiliated students, spouses and dependents of veterans were enrolled at UTC, comprising more than 5% of the student population.
Sylvana Matthews, director of the UTC Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, said the Military Friendly designation “shows how strong the UTC military-connected community is growing and confirms that we are going in the right direction in providing assistance with military-to-school transitional assistance.”
Military Friendly ratings are determined through the evaluation of public data and proprietary data gathered through the annual Military Friendly survey process. The data-driven Military Friendly survey is available at no cost to thousands of institutions nationwide. Survey topics and questions are reviewed and developed with the assistance of an independent Military Friendly Advisory Council comprising independent subject matter experts and industry partners representing the field of veteran education.
