University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Guerry Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering Rahul R. Bhosale has been recognized among the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide by ScholarGPS.
Bhosale, who joined the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science in spring 2023, was ranked No. 3,837 (0.03%) overall across all disciplines and No. 7 (0.02%) in the field of hydrogen energy in the categories of “Highly Ranked Scholars—Prior Five Years.” He was also ranked No. 1,668 (0.08%) in engineering and computer science, No. 636 (0.09%) in energy and No. 180 (0.11%) in chemical engineering.
The ScholarGPS database tracks more than 30 million scholars from 120,000 institutions globally, evaluating them on publication records, citation performance and disciplinary leadership.
“This recognition highlights the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s commitment to fostering a dynamic academic environment and engaging in rigorous research,” he said. “I am pleased to have played a role in enhancing UTC’s research reputation on both national and international platforms.”
Bhosale’s research spans energy, environmental and materials-related topics—including solar fuels, energy storage, fossil fuel reforming, catalysis, carbon capture and utilization, bioenergy, biofuels, batteries, desalination, wastewater treatment, computational thermodynamics, and modeling.
His work includes 223 publications with about 7,000 citations, an h-index of 52 and an i-10 index of 122. He has collaborated with institutions across the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
“For me, research transcends discovery; it involves the creation of a cleaner, more equitable future through innovation and collaboration,” Bhosale said.
“My research is guided by a vision to develop sustainable energy solutions that are both scientifically innovative and practically scalable for real-world applications.”
Since 2020, Bhosale has been recognized by ScholarGPS as a “Highly Ranked Scholar” in hydrogen energy. He has also received numerous honors, including the Guerry Professorship from UTC in 2024 and a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Initiation Award earlier this year.
In addition, he has chaired international conferences, mentored students and early-career scientists, and served on editorial boards of peer-reviewed journals.
“This honor reinforces the values of perseverance, mentorship and dedication to addressing grand challenges in energy, environment and materials,” he said.
