The following message was sent to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus community on Monday, Jan. 26:

The Cold Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for the Chattanooga/Hamilton County, TN area remains in effect through 12:00 p.m. tomorrow. Tonight, wind chills are expected to range from 5 degrees to as low as -15 degrees in higher elevations. Very cold temperatures are forecast to continue through the remainder of the week and into the weekend.
The University will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Students, employees, and affiliates are encouraged to prioritize their personal safety while traveling to and navigating around campus. Although roads and walkways have been treated to mitigate hazards, individuals should use caution and allow extra time, as some areas may remain icy.
- Students who are unable to travel to campus safely due to local road conditions are encouraged to prioritize their safety and notify their course instructors as soon as possible. Faculty will work with students to provide reasonable accommodations. Students are expected to complete required coursework in accordance with guidelines set by their instructors.
- Faculty members who are unable to travel to campus safely due to local road conditions are encouraged to prioritize their safety and contact their Department Head or School/Program Director as soon as possible to make appropriate arrangements, consistent with the UTC Faculty Handbook.
- Staff members who are unable to travel to campus safely due to local road conditions are encouraged to prioritize their safety and contact their supervisor as soon as possible to make appropriate arrangements for documenting annual leave or seeking authorization to contribute to services remotely to the extent feasible.
