Patrick Noland took on Chancellor Roger Brown’s role for a day when the two participated in the UTC Student Alumni Council’s (SAC) Trading Places program. He donated $1 to enter the SAC drawing, which benefits the Ronald McDonald House in Chattanooga.
Patrick NolandNoland, whose hometown in Memphis, attended an early breakfast in a white shirt and tie which he said was “not unfamiliar territory” as a Christian Brothers High School graduate. He met the Chancellor at breakfast before setting off for a day of meetings.
“As soon as it was announced that I was selected to be Chancellor for a day, I heard from a lot of students who wanted me to discuss issues with the chancellors and vice chancellors,” Noland said. “They may have been living vicariously through me or they may have had agendas to push.”
Currently a sophomore majoring in English, Writing, Noland said he looks forward to a career in public relations or as an editor for a newspaper or magazine. He sent Chancellor Brown, a student for the day, off to his classes in American Literature and Chemistry. The Chancellor wore his UTC cap and took notes for his counterpart. Unfortunately, there was not time in Dr. Brown’s schedule to jam with Noland’s heavy Grunge band. Noland is a big fan of Queens of the Stone Age and he listens to the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
At the end of the day as Chancellor, Noland said he enjoyed the experience. “I learned a lot about the job of the Chancellor. I also talked with a vice chancellor about the parking situation on campus and I requested more food choices be available on campus on the weekend,” Noland said.
In addition to becoming Chancellor for the Day, Noland also received one General Parking Decal.
