Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste, Assistant Professor in Exercise Science, has been selected as the inaugural 2016-17 Provost Executive Administrative Intern.
The appointment begins on August 1, 2016 and will be completed on May 6, 2017. During the internship, Baptiste will contribute to specific projects, including those where she will serve in a leadership role. In addition, she will have an opportunity to be involved in routine Deans and Provost Council meetings as well other conversations regarding budget, policies, and procedures.
“We look forward to working with Baptiste during the coming year and providing with her opportunities to engage in university-wide administrative matters,” said Dr. Jerald Ainsworth, Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Baptiste was the unanimous choice from among several applicants. Upon learning that Baptiste was selected, Dr. Gary Liguori, Department Head of Health and Human Performance, commented, “She will impress you in the coming year with her diligence, competency, personality, and overall ability to get the job done.”
Baptiste has this to say after being informed she was selected.
“When I started at UTC three years ago, I had a dream of serving the campus in an administrative role. I’ve had the opportunity to work under a number of phenomenal administrators, all of whom have helped me strive to a standard of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The training and professional development opportunities, support from the Office of Equity and Diversity, and my colleagues in the Department of Health and Human Performance have provided a strong foundation for my upward mobility to fulfill our mission in higher education, which is serving students and the campus community. I can officially say I am eager to begin the fall 2016 semester at UTC!”
