Freshmen opportunity: imagine reading comic books and graphic novels in a course that considers the evolution of the modern superhero. Not into comic book culture? A hip hop course will explore the social and cultural conflicts and suppression that led to the genre. In addition, the course will focus on gangsta rap and East coast west coast conflict and the role of Atlanta in developing the counter culture that mainstreamed into modern fashion and media.

“Learning communities offer freshmen a look at diverse opportunities at UTC and the Chattanooga area,” said Dr. Fran Bender, Assistant Provost for Student Retention and Success.
“It’s a great way to introduce students to the community and to become better acquainted with faculty and staff.”
These classes will take students from campus to explore the Chattanooga community.
