The University is endorsing Stand, a community visioning effort for the Chattanooga region. Stand’s mission is to engage community members to express their ideas for the future, organize around common purposes and translate vision into action.
Approximately 25 years ago, the Chattanooga area undertook a public visioning process that has become the model and inspiration for the on-going transformation of our area. Stand is designed to build on previous visioning processes by identifying community priorities and gathering big ideas that will help set a course for the next 25 years. The goal for Stand is to receive input from a very broad and inclusive group of people from across the region, including the faculty, staff and students that make up the UTC family, according to Chancellor Roger Brown.
“I believe this is an important effort to gather grass roots opinions on our region’s future. I would like to encourage you to participate in Stand by Monday, September 14th,” Brown said. “Your input will be used to help make Chattanooga the best it can be! Take a stand for our community by completing the Stand survey.”
Stand’s goal is an aggressive one: to collect feedback from a record-breaking 25,000 people. Already Stand has broken records by engaging over 19,000 residents from the region. Meeting the goal of 25,000 will make Stand the world’s largest visioning process.
Feedback is being gathered by way of a four-question survey. Stand will publicly distribute the survey results, processed by the Ochs Center for Metropolitan Studies. Additionally, the Stand survey has been approved by UTC’s Institutional Review Board, meaning the survey data will be available to UTC faculty for research purposes.
