The UTC athletics department and RiverCity Company recently teamed up to animate storefronts in downtown Chattanooga with UTC decorations. Over 40 downtown retailers, restaurants and businesses signed up and displayed their support for the Mocs during Blue and Gold Week.
“Working with the downtown businesses falls right in line with part of the mission of University to be engaged in community involvement,” stated UTC Director of Athletics Rick Hart. “It is very important for the Mocs to have a presence in the downtown area to show residents and visitors that Chattanooga is a college town. It brings more awareness to our program and we are grateful for the support from the RiverCity Company and the local business community.”
The RiverCity Company, through its retail initiative, is coordinating the program and will also be selecting two of the participating businesses to receive a complimentary membership into the Mocs Merchant program. The UTC athletic department is providing decorations for the store fronts along with up to 4 tickets to the game for participating businesses. UTC student government signed student groups to provide creativity and labor to showcase downtown Chattanooga as a college town.
“We have had an incredible response from our downtown businesses,” states Cullon Hooks, Retail Director at RiverCity Company, “They are extremely excited to show their support for the Mocs and show the students how much they are welcomed and valued in the downtown community.”
Ryan Peck, Director of Marketing for the UTC Athletics Department said, “Local companies play a crucial role in generating hometown support for college athletics. UTC pride is quickly becoming a large part of the Chattanooga culture, these businesses will not be overlooked by the community.”
