Four of the six candidates for Tennessee governor have confirmed that they will be on UTC’s campus Monday, June 25, for a gubernatorial forum.
Sponsored by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the 90-minute forum is being held in the University Center’s Tennessee Room from 6-8 p.m. A 30-minute meet-and-greet will follow the forum.
Republicans Randy Boyd, former Tennessee Economic and Community Development commissioner, and businessman Bill Lee will attend, while Democrats Karl Dean, former mayor of Nashville, and state Rep. Craig Fitzhugh also will be at the forum.
Republican Beth Harwell, speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, is trying to work out her schedule to attend; U.S. Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., was invited but has not responded.
The free tickets are sold out, but you can watch a livestream of the event in another room. To register, go to https://bit.ly/2IdNAid. You also can stand in the Tennessee Room and, if there are seats available, they’ll be handed out in a first-come first-serve basis.
Early voting begins July 13 for the primary election, which will be held on Aug. 2.
You can suggest questions prior to the forum by emailing news@timesfreepress.com or posting them on Twitter with the hashtag #TFPforum or on the newspaper’s Facebook page.
Free parking is available in the Fifth Street garage next to the University Center.
