Take out your calendars because it’s time to make your schedule for Founder’s Week, which celebrates the founding of UTC—then known as the Chattanooga University—on Sept. 15, 1886.
The week, which runs from Monday, Sept. 10, through Friday, Sept. 14, kicks off at 11 a.m. Monday with the Mocs Games 2018 in Maclellan Gym. An annual event to honor faculty and staff, it includes plenty of attractions for students, too, including include games, food and giveaways.
The games also offer a chance to help others. Bring non-perishable food items for Scrappy’s Cupboard, an emergency food assistance program available to all UTC students.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the annual Service Awards were given to faculty and staff who have been at UTC for five years or more. Three people—Mike Royster, Assistant Athletics Director for Equipment and Facilities, Sue Garrett, Surplus Specialist in Procurement and Contract Services, and Ted Miller, UC Foundation Professor in Learning and Leadership—received framed letters from Chancellor Steven Angle, congratulating and thanking them for 40 years of service.
On Thursday, Sept. 13, there will be a campus celebration to recognize a $40 million gift, the largest in UTC’s history, from Gary W. Rollins, a University of Chattanooga alumnus, and his wife, Kathleen. As a result of the donation, the College of Business now will be the Gary W. Rollins College of Business. From 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Fletcher Hall lawn, the Rollins here for the official dedication of the newly named college.
The next day, Friday, Sept. 14, Chancellor Steve Angle presents his annual State of the University address, which takes place from noon-1:30 p.m. in the new West Campus Residence Hall courtyard. After the chancellor finishes his remarks, tours of the impressive West Campus housing facility will be available.
