A plaque to honor ROTC alumni from UTC was recently placed at Chamberlain Field, symbolizing the start the commissioning U.S. Army officers at the university.
“Chamberlain Field was more than just a football field; it was a parade field, a place to conduct military movement and tactics. It housed our dorms, our armory and our Cadre offices. It was where heroes were awarded and legends were made,” says Capt. Kevin Beavers, head of the Department of Military Science.
“This plaque symbolizes those great leaders that volunteered to serve their country and some made the ultimate sacrifice for our country to allow us to continue to enjoy the freedoms we have,” he said.
It also “serves as a benchmark and not an end as our program continues to thrive and continues to serve our university, our Chattanooga community and our country with the next generation of commissioned officers.”
All funds to pay for the plaque were raised by ROTC alumni, he adds.
