Michelle Deardorff knows something about political scientists.
Not only is she a political scientist, herself, Deardorff is Adolph S. Ochs Professor of Government and head of the Department of Political Science and Public Service at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Her expertise made her the cited expert on the field in January’s U.S. News and World Report “Best Jobs” report. In the magazine, Deardorff cited her own career preparation and discussed the range of opportunities in the field today.
The road to success might offer opportunities that aren’t “glamorous,” she told the magazine but suggested those committed to the field not overlook any opportunity.
“It helps because when people see you’re hustling and you’re working hard, there’s people who will watch that and open doors for you,” Deardorff said.
