Sustainability was the focus of UTC’s 2010 Convocation, with alumnus Brad McAllister encouraging students to find common ground between business objectives and protecting the environment.
Chancellor Roger Brown outlined how the University has made strides to set a good example for students with its efforts to reduce water and electricity usage and curb its greenhouse gas emissions.
“At the same time our campus has been making these advances, our faculty members have been taking steps to establish UTC as an educational and research leader in areas related to sustainability. For example, our SimCenter: National Center for Computational Engineering helped test a new hydrogen fuel cell that has boundless potential to help us address our dependence on coal generated electricity,” said Brown.
McAllister, partner and director of WAP Sustainability in Chattanooga, explained how students interested in pursuing a career in business and those who are concerned about the environment can indeed work together to solve problems.
