A friendly competition has drawn Chancellor Roger Brown and his wife and partner Dr. Carolyn Thompson to help answer the question “Are You Smarter than a Girls Inc. Girl?”
UTC’s first couple and several other prominent Chattanooga couples polished their trivia knowledge as they prepared to battle with local girls who have benefitted from Chattanooga’s Girls Inc. programs. This fundraiser, Girls Inc.’s 6th annual Blast Off Event, is hosted by the Chattanooga chapter of Girls Inc. with the intention of having a positive and lasting impact on girls and the community.
Proceeds from this local game show event support several Girls Inc. annual programs, including the Women’s History Project, the Infant Mortality Public Awareness Campaign for Tennessee, and the Leadership Team.
Additional programs supported by the Girls Inc.’s Blast Off Event, include after school programs at several local elementary and middle schools and special programs for students on spring, fall and summer breaks.
When asked why he was participating in the event, Chancellor Brown said he “believes the success of young women is the success of our world.”
Girls Inc. is a national organization that supports girls and their communities through research-based programs and advocacy that empower girls to reach their full potential and to understand, value, and assert their rights. In 2009 alone, Girls Inc. reached over 900,000 girls through Girls Inc. affiliates, their website, and educational publications.
