What: 2022 Technology Innovates Our World Symposium
When 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday
Where: Downtown Library, 1001 Broad St.
With a focus firmly on the future, the 2022 Technology Innovates Our World Symposium is welcoming students from across the Chattanooga area to display and discuss their ideas on new technology.
On Thursday in the Downtown Library, students from local high schools, community colleges and the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will present their research projects. There will be demonstrations and hands-on displays, giving attendees the chance to see the projects in person and ask questions of the student researchers. The event also is online for those who can’t or prefer not to attend in person.
In recent years, the UTC CECS has developed relationships with high schools and community colleges in the area. Through events such as the Technology Innovates Our World Symposium and CECS internships, the research and educational partnerships continue to expand.
Supported by the thriving Chattanooga tech corridor, a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education is a positive force in the local economy.
John Loudermilk, president and chief executive officer of Birla Carbon, will speak at the symposium. Birla Carbon is the world’s leading sustainable manufacturer and supplier of carbon black additives.
Carbon black is mainly used as a reinforcing material in tires and other rubber products. It also is used in plastics, paints and ink as a color pigment.
Over 29 years in the chemical industry, Loudermilk has held a variety of leadership positions within Monsanto and Solutia Inc. with responsibilities across business management, manufacturing, procurement, sales and supply chain.
An integral part of the Tech Symposium will be Industry Hour from noon-1 p.m. in which four of the main industry supporters— TVA, ChaTech, EPB and Miller Industries—will present on opportunities at their organizations.
Other industries support this event by helping to plan the symposium, which begins each year in October.
Event planning is a collective effort of the Public Education Foundation, TVA, ChaTech, The Enterprise Center, Hamilton County Department of Education, Chattanooga State Community College, Cleveland State Community College, Dalton State Community College and the Downtown Library.
