7 a.m. – 8 a.m. –“ Saturday Morning Sunrise” with Monessa Guilfoil
8 a.m. – 10 a.m. – “Weekend Edition”
10 a.m.-11 a.m. – “A Carolina Christmas from Biltomore Estate with Kathy Mattea”– A Carolina Christmas is a festive celebration of holiday music featuring soloists and large ensembles performing sacred music of the season, African-American spirituals, Celtic Jigs with two-time Country Music Female Vocalist of the year Kathy Mattea. Joining Kathy will be the Carolinas’ premiere vocal ensemble, VOX, as well as Baroque/Celtic trio The Beggar Boys.
11 a.m.-12 noon – An updated version of a public radio tradition hosted by NPR’s Lisa Simeone. Master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of Dickens’ holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own presentations. Also featuring Mimi Kennedy.
12 noon-2 p.m. — Christmas Jazz Treasures” with Ken Dryden– Drawing from his extensive collection of jazz recordings, jazz journalist Ken Dryden will share some of his favorites of the season, not all of which will come from Christmas albums. Artists to be featured will include Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, Phil Woods and others.
2 p.m.-3 p.m.– “All Songs Considered for the Holidays”– Join jolly Santa Bob Boilen and his magical elves as they check their list for the best eclectic mix of Christmas tunes by emerging and break-out bands. This is the second “All Songs Considered” holiday special from NPR music.
3 p.m.-4 p.m. ––“Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites”– Lynn Neary features stories from the NPR archives that touch on the meaning of Christmas. David Sedaris, Bailey White, John Henry Faulk join other NPR voices telling stories of the season.
4 p.m.-5 p.m. – A Christmas Celtic Harvest hosted by Rabbit will feature traditional Celtic holiday songs and a few new tunes thrown in for good measure.
5 p.m.-6 p.m. — “All Things Considered Weekend Edition”
6 p.m.-8 p.m. – “A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor”
8 p.m.-9 p.m. – Jazz Piano Christmas XXI– NPR Music is onstage again at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for another live incarnation of one of our most popular programs. This year’s Jazz Piano Christmas features jazz greats Monty Alexander, Helio Alves, Freddy Cole, Renee Rosnes and Jessica Williams. Felix Contreas hosts.
9 p.m.-10 p.m. – “Christmas Music with Jim Bowman”
