Revised summer academic calendar
The new academic calendar reflects changes in our summer school schedule, which had previously been announced to faculty and are not associated with weather-related schedule changes. Working with the recommendation of a summer school task force, the Deans Council unanimously voted to overhaul the 2011 summer school schedule.
Reorganization of summer school is being implemented based on two principles:
1. Firm establishment of a student-centered focus to summer school programming
2. Creation of an incentive-based financial model that will respond to student enrollment demand and will also reward departments for growing summer school enrollments
Deans are now working with their respective department heads to modify accordingly specific course assignments for next summer. We will discontinue our current AM/PM schedule and implement the following schedule beginning in Summer 2011:
• Two consecutive six-week summer terms
o Summer 1- May 18-June 28
o Summer 2- June 29-August 9
• One 12 week summer term
o Summer 3- May 18- August 9
