On April 8 and 9, students will participate in CreateAthon onCampus, is a 24-hour work-around-the-clock creative blitz focused on creating design solutions for Dalewood Middle School. Students will work for 24 hours starting at 10:00 a.m., on campus at UTC. The project is collaboration between students enrolled in the Professional Practices class in the UTC Art Department, CreateHere, and the Urban League of Chattanooga, Hamilton County Schools and local businesses.
This CreateAthon onCampus is focused on improving the learning environment at Dalewood through showcases of student work, new signage and branding of the school’s art department. It also gives UTC’s design students project management experience within the context of community outreach and nonprofit endeavors.
“It is always good to connect students with professionals so they can build relationships and learn from each other,” said Leslie Jensen-Inman, UTC Assistant Professor of Art, Design and Technology. “Local connections and opportunities for service help students understand that they are valued members of the community. When professionals see students doing good, they are often reminded of ways to use their skills for the well-being of the community. Everyone benefits from an event like CreateAthon onCampus.”
