The UTC Music Department presents a guest piano recital with Chih-Long Hu on Thursday, January 24, at 1:40 p.m., at the Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited. A master class with piano students Johan Sentana, Yeaji Lee, and Emily Hammett is scheduled at 3 p.m., also in Roland Hayes Concert Hall.
Chih-Long Hu is a native of Taiwan and currently teaches at East Tennessee State University. He has received numerous honors including winning the Taipei Philharmonic Piano Competition, the National Taipei Concert Hall Arising Star, and the prestigious Chi-Mei Artist Award. He was awarded Second Prize and a Special Prize at the Mauro Monopoli International Piano Competition in Italy, and the Fourth Prize at Concurs Internacional De Piano D’Escaldes-Engordany in Andorra. Most recently, he garnered the Fifth Prize at Takamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, followed by a Second Prize at the International Russian Music Piano Competition in San Jose, California.
Hu’s program will include the dazzling Gaspard de la nuit by Maurice Ravel, the dreamy Nocturnes Op. 27 by Frédéric Chopin, and the electrifying Three Movements from Petrouchka by Igor Stravinsky.
