Perhaps the most popular play from the author who helped establish the Theatre of the Absurd movement. French playwright Eugene Ionesco wrote RHINOCEROS in 1959. The play is timely, witty and explores a world on the brink of change, but the change these citizens undergo is not merely political, it is biological!!
Inspired by French art of the mid-twentieth century and the magical realism of artists such as M,C. Esher, the sets and costumes capture a light whimsical appeal fitting the comic, farcical, unreal style of the play.
RHINOCEROS is directed by Mac Smotherman. Set design by Gaye Jeffers, costume design by Sydney Roberts and lighting design by John R. Burgess. Cast members include Jacob Joyner as Berenger, Chris Campbell as Jean, Britney Naylor as Daisy and Sam Fort as Dudard. Also in the cast are Caitlin Little, Savannah Daigle, Emily White, Will Park, Sean Henon, Adena Grace, Ashley Graham, Tom Hawtin, Jamie Harkin, and Chrissy Varnell.
Talkbacks with actors and the director will follow the February 16 and 21 performances.
