On Thursday afternoon, parts of the UTC campus were evacuated because of a threat of explosion. The UTC Alert text messaging system was activated and email messages were sent to enrolled students, faculty and staff. UTC Campus Police in cooperation with the Chattanooga Fire Department and Chattanooga Police Department used bomb- sniffing dogs to search the affected parts of campus before allowing students, faculty and staff to return to all buildings. By 4 p.m., classes and normal operations had resumed in all buildings.
“Bomb threats are considered a felony, and we will pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law,” said Chuck Cantrell, University spokesperson.
Cantrell and UTC Campus Police Chief Bob Ratchford remind the UTC campus community to remain alert and report any suspicious activity or suspicious items to UTC Campus Police by calling 425-4357.
Students, faculty and staff may still enroll in the UTC Alert system.
